Hi, I'm Torrey!

After coaching hundreds of humanitarian and development leaders, I have observed common ways of leading that keep you stuck and in overwhelm.

These ways of leading are so common you probably don’t realize how they prevent you from achieving more.

They create the OPPOSITE of what you want.

They keep you BUSY but not IMPACTFUL.

Most humanitarian and development leaders WANT to be high performers.

But you make things more difficult for yourself by following traditional ways of leading such as:

  • Being a team player by saying yes to extra work
  • Always being available
  • Telling your team what to do
  • Making things “perfect”

I call this traditional way of leading that keeps you stuck “High Performance Syndrome.”

High Performance Syndrome ways of leading come from good intentions, but doesn't produce the impact you want.

It also doesn't produce the impact your organization wants - because you end up NOT leading inclusively or empowering others.

In other words, high performance syndrome ways of working PREVENT you from becoming a modern humanitarian and development leader.

When you have high performance syndrome, you are probably:

- Working late nights and/or weekends
- Spending a lot of time in meetings and on email
- Feeling stressed and overwhelmed
- Distracted during working hours and unable to get focused work done
- Not leading inclusively or empowering those around you

You can cure yourself of "High Performance Syndrome."

It starts with changing how you lead.

After teaching hundreds of leaders globally, I have developed a step by step Operations Manual for you to become a modern humanitarian and development leader, regardless of your team’s personality or cultural background.

Here's what you'll learn:

WEEKS ONE AND TWO:

IDENTIFY

You need to help yourself before you can help others.  The first step is becoming self-aware of what is keeping us in busy-ness and preventing the impact we seek.  In these two weeks you will:

  • Clarify the impact you want to make as a leader
  • Prioritize your time in order to guarantee that impact
  • Identify and overcome the ways you are working and leading which are preventing you from being productive

After these two weeks, you'll understand how to go from busy and overloaded to productive and impactful.

WEEKS THREE, FOUR AND FIVE:

COACH

Learn how to use leadership coaching in everyday conversations - in order to empower others to find their own way of doing things instead of telling them what to do. In these weeks you will:

  • Learn the “Coach Approach Leadership Style” - how to apply coaching skills to empower your team to solve their own problems
  • Practice your coaching skills and see your team become more motivated and proactive
  • Understand reasons why your team is not performing as you would like and how to help them achieve greater impact

After these three weeks you will understand how to strengthen and support your team through different leadership styles.

WEEK SIX AND BEYOND:

EMPOWER

Now you're ready to use your new way of leading with your team, community and implementing partners!  In week six and beyond the course you will:

  • Refine the impact you will make based on the skills you’ve learned
  • Continue learning and refining your skills with six months of monthly support calls for continued troubleshooting and practice

After this, you will have the skills, support and understanding to achieve greater impact without the overwhelm and overwork, and can call yourself a "modern humanitarian and development leader."

HEY, I'M TORREY!

I know firsthand how overwhelmed and overworked you can feel as a humanitarian and development leader.  I've been there.

After working 12 years in international development, I became a full time leadership coach and trainer for development and aid worker leaders globally.

Localization, greater diversity and inclusion are some of the change needed in our sector.  But how do you step up to that change and become a modern humanitarian and development leader?

As a modern humanitarian and development leader you will need to achieve more in less time.  You will need to shift power to those around you and help them fulfill their full potential. And you will need to do it all without stress and burnout.

I have designed this course to equip you with the skills you need to become that modern leader.  By taking control of your time, empowering others and leading by example, you will be on the path to making the change you desire.

"This course has been like a mirror, helping me see myself with more clarity and understanding. I now am so much more aware of how I am self-sabotaging through the unreasonably high expectations I place on myself and the unproductive techniques I have been using to manage this. I look forward to continuing to practice the methods and approaches I've learned in this course to better empower and support my team and reduce my workload to a more manageable level."

- Tessa Henwood-Mitchell
International Programs and Quality Director, Mary MacKillop Today

"I am dedicated towards achieving my leadership impact goal, and now, I have learned the skills and knowledge to achieve those goals by supporting my team with coaching."

- Lhakpa, Humanitarian Manager

"When one of my team member came up to me with a problem, I was aware that this person is capable of solving the problem by themselves, but they just lack the confidence to make a decision. In that moment I used the coaching method to coach the person and ask them in different perspective of how they would act in this kind of situation, and also validating their ideas. At the end of the conversation, they became more confident and actually came up with the solution themselves."

- Bella, Humanitarian Manager
